'Twas the night before the trial sermon
And all through the house
I was pacing and cleaning
Like a crazed, worried mouse.
The Bibles were packed
And the clothes were laid out,
As Josh studied His sermon
That He's prayed all about.
The children were nestled
All snug in the beds,
While visions of Sunday School
Danced in their heads.
With Josh in his sweat pants
And me in my gown,
I tried to watch tv
And just settle down.
When deep in my heart
There arose such a clatter!
I started to pray
And see what was the matter.
Away for my Bible
I flew like a flash
And opened the pages
To the worn bookmark sash.
God's Word is so fresh,
Like the new-fallen snow.
He spoke to my heart,
His peace to bestow.
When, what to my wondering heart
Did I hear,
But the Holy Spirit
Speaking His love in my ear.
God's Word is a sword,
So sharp and so quick.
It cuts through my worries
When they grow ever thick.
More rapid than eagles,
His promises came.
And He whispered and prodded,
He called me by name.
"Now Amber, now daughter,
Now struggling child,
Keep walking and trusting
Though the journey seems wild.
To the top of the mountain,
Don't stop and don't fall.
When you're tired, keep on going
For I see it all."
And then in a twinkling
I felt something start,
That sweet, restful peace
Brewed deep in my heart.
As I bowed my head
And remembered the cross,
His sweet, precious blood,
And now I'm at a loss.
He died just for me,
I was bought with a price,
So why am I worried,
Why even think twice?
I know He has carried me
Safe until now,
And He will continue to guide me
If I'll only allow.
So I sprang to my feet
With a song and cheer,
And I shouted to Josh,
"To the parsonage, dear!"
"Yet I still belong to you; you are holding my right hand. You will keep on guiding me with your counsel, leading me to a glorious destiny. Whom have I in heaven but you? I desire you more than anything on earth. My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever. But those who desert him will perish, for you destroy those who abandon you. But as for me, how good it is to be near God! I have made the Sovereign Lord my shelter, and I will tell everyone about the wonderful things you do."

Hi! I go to HCBC and I thought you guys were great! BTW I was Ally's teacher in children's church - she is beautiful and precious. I am looking forward... hopefully... to having her every week! God bless!
Thank you so much for all your prayers! Sarah, Ally has not stopped talking about you guys all day. You were so wonderful to her. I can't thank you enough! I am praying constantly this week as we wait for what God will do. :)
Found you from the M2M Blogroll.
Candidating is rough work and I love this poem you wrote. It captured my feelings as well. Thanks for the smiles to a sick pastor's wife this day.
